In the sub compact range, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC W300 is an elegant digital camera encased in a titanium shell that is scratch-resistant. This 13.6 megapixel camera has a 3x Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar optical zoom lens and a 2.7 inch LCD screen. Other features include an optical viewfinder, Smile shutter and face detection technology, super steady shot image stabilizer that takes care of camera shake, minimizing blur, HD output to the HDTV set and intelligent screen recognition, which, depending on your subject, chooses the right shooting mode for you. The full manual exposure and in-camera editing with cropping, fisheye lens, unsharp mask filters and real color mode, along with several auto mode picture-making options is attractive to beginners. About the only cons with the camera are its menu system and perhaps price. But this can be overcome. The camera is powered by a proprietary lithium-ion rechargeable battery.
