Here is the deal. If you want to take a compact camera to underwater, a Pentax Optio W60 is the real deal. Successor of Optio W30, this one can stay 4m under water for up to two hours. Thanks to the waterproof body, it doesn’t require an additional housing while you go snorkeling or while splashing water with your kids.

It is a 10-megapixel compact digital camera featuring 5x optical zoom and a 2.5 LCD screen. It also records HD movie (720p) at 15fps. You can add an SD or SDHC memory card. At price tag of more than $400, it is not that cheap. You don’t have anything to complain, as the underwater mode allows you to catch images that you never thought possible.

This camera also works fine below freezing temperature. Maybe, your skiing adventure can be more fun with a camera that doesn’t fail. However, it is not all about water and snow, Pentax Optio W50 also catches landscapes, parties, and picnics. The face recognition function, auto focus, and auto exposure features make photography a no-brainer.

The bright wide angle LCD screen has anti-reflection coating and allows wide viewing angle. The shake reduction feature guarantees sharp images and stable HD videos. The underwater recording mode adjusts automatically to lighting conditions under water.

The auto picture mode takes the thinking out of your head and selects the appropriate shooting mode – night scene, portrait, landscape, and sport among others.

The macro setting allows ultra close-up pictures – less than half an inch. The frame composite function also comes with 80 different frame styles. Maybe, you will also need to categorize your images date-wise.

The features are straightforward. Prized at close to $450, Pentax Optio W50 is something more than a beginners’ camera.
