Pentax has a good range of compact cameras. Pentax Optio M50 is an 8-megapixel camera with a price tag of less than $250. It sports features like 5x optical zoom lens, face recognition, auto exposure, and auto focus. The 2.5″ LCD monitor allows wide viewing angles. The camera comes with 51.1MB internal memory and supports SD cards.

Apart from a programmable shooting mode, Pentax Optio M50 also comes with different shooting modes – portraits, landscape, night-time, kids, and pets among others. In other words, the photographer only has to read the instructions to choose appropriate shooting modes and the camera will do the rest.

The face recognition technology helps to focus on up to 15 people in the frame. Smile detection and blink detection make sure the subjects are caught smiling and not with eyes closed.

Shutter speed varies from 1/2000s to 4s. Add a tripod and you can catch beautiful landscapes and night scenes.

The AutoPict mode is for confused photographers, not sure about the appropriate scene mode. The camera chooses the mode for you, if you think the names and cartoon symbols are not good enough.

Shake reduction feature avoids blurred images due to shaky hands. When selected, the ‘Shake-Reduction’ option sets ISO at 6400. It increases shutter speed and avoids chances of camera shake.

Pentax Optio M50 comes in six different colors – black, silver, light blue, dark blue, rose, and pink. The sizes are 3.7×2.2×0.9″. A slim camera that makes photography easy for any newbie, this one from Pentax leaves very little for the photographer to do.
