Panasonic LS85
Priced at a $120, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LS85 has features that will surprise you and an image quality that will not disappoint you.
The camera offers a resolution of 8.1 megapixels and 4X optical zoom (33mm – 132 mm). It runs on 2 AA size batteries and has a SD/SDHC card slot placed on the side of the camera.
Building on the success of the LS80, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LS85 has an independent iA (Intelligent Auto) button that allows you to access the iA mode directly.
The iA feature sets the DMC-LS85 apart from other point-and-shoot cameras with features such as automatic scene adjustment, red-eye correction, optical image stabilization, and ISO adjustment.
The intelligent placement of the iA button next to the shutter button makes it easy for casual photographers to get the best results.
The standout feature of the LS85 is its optical image stabilization. Other cameras within the range of $150 have features of either digital image stabilization or no image stabilization. The optical image stabilization also works well. You can get clear images even if you shake the camera around.
The scene mode in the camera has been given a boost. You can now choose from over 21 scene settings. Notable additions include Aerial Photo (allows you to take pictures through airplane windows), and a High Speed Burst mode (you can shoot up to 5 shots per second at the lowest resolution).
The downside to this camera is the way it feels in your hands. The LS85 has a cheap, plastic feel to it.
Overall, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LS85 offers the best features at a rock bottom price.
