So I checked out the new P60 by Nikon this last weekend. Overall, not a bad camera. I’m still trying to get used to the idea of a 2.5″ LCD screen on a compact digital camera. What amazes me is how clear they are. In fact, I bet that the optical viewfinder will be extinct in the next couple of years. But that’s OK because the P60 has an electronic view finder anyways.

Other features of this compact camera include the following:

• a 5x Nikkor lens, excellent for capturing the closer pics (which by the way allows you to zoom while you are in movie mode).

•  A staggering 8.1 mega pixel capability, which can get yourself some nice framable pictures.

The Nikon P5100 is quite the sophisticated piece of art for a compact camera. It features a 12.1 mega pixel sensor, which is a step up from its brother P5000. The P5100’s lens has remained unchanged, however. It still sports the 3.5x zoom Nikkon optically-stabilized VR (Vibration Reduction).

This compact digital camera has an amazing feel to it; something that you would not come to expect from such a full-featured compact camera like this. It has the typical 2.5″ screen that you see on most compacts today, and even has some antiglare coating on it. However, like most LCDs, it is still hard to see in the direct sun.

The Fujifilm Finepix F60fd camera is another addition to the ever popular ultra compact point and shoot cameras.  It features 12mp, 3x optical zoom, face detection technology, sensor shift image stabilization, 3 inch LCD screen, and automatic scene detection.

First of all, this is a nice little package wrapped up into a little bundle of joy. It’s amazing how these ultra compacts are sporting 12 mp. That’s something that you would usually expect from a much larger DSLR, not a compact camera that you can slip into your shirt pocket. From the off position, this little guy can spring into action in a whopping 1.2 seconds. However, when you get ready to take the next picture, it is pretty slow, something like 3 seconds. So if you miss the first picture, it can be a little disappointing trying to get the next one in time.

The Kodak Easyshare M1033 is a very well rounded, ultra compact, point and shoot camera. It features a 10 mp, 3x optical zoom, intelligent scene detection, which detects and analyzes scene conditions and has intelligent capture control, which automatically sets the camera settings, and intelligent image processing, which reduces noise and makes for some good photos even in the dark.

The Kodak Easyshare M1033 is HD capable. It captures very nice HD quality photos and videos. The cool thing about this compact camera is the accessory dock that you get, which helps you view those HD shots on your HDTV.

The buttons for the options like flash, mode selection, shutter, and power are flush with the top of this compact camera. This brings the package together for a nice, slim, and clean look.

For the price at which it is available, this is not a bad bare bones compact camera. The L100 is priced well below others in its class. However, what it lack in features, it makes up for in quality. Samsung does make some quality products and this little compact camera is no exception.

The camera itself is functionally designed for the average user. The first thing you will notice is that the mode selector is on top. This makes it easier to get to the selection you need and there’s a less chance of it getting snagged on the corners of your camera case.

There is an oversized zoom tab at the back, which is logically placed to allow for faster zooming abilities. Just a little push up or down and you are in full control.

Canon PowerShot A570 IS It’s probably not as hard to find a superb camera at the lower end of the price scale and size range as you may think. You can actually get a great camera that will definitely give you everything that you could want in a camera without spending an arm and a leg, or lugging around a big clunky heavy object – and the Canon PowerShot A570 IS is the proof in the pudding.
