It is a 10-megapixel compact digital camera featuring 5x optical zoom and a 2.5 LCD screen. It also records HD movie (720p) at 15fps. You can add an SD or SDHC memory card. At price tag of more than $400, it is not that cheap. You don’t have anything to complain, as the underwater mode allows you to catch images that you never thought possible.

This camera also works fine below freezing temperature. Maybe, your skiing adventure can be more fun with a camera that doesn’t fail. However, it is not all about water and snow, Pentax Optio W50 also catches landscapes, parties, and picnics. The face recognition function, auto focus, and auto exposure features make photography a no-brainer.

It sports features like 5x optical zoom lens, face recognition, auto exposure, and auto focus. The 2.5″ LCD monitor allows wide viewing angles. The camera comes with 51.1MB internal memory and supports SD cards.

Apart from a programmable shooting mode, Pentax Optio M50 also comes with different shooting modes – portraits, landscape, night-time, kids, and pets among others. In other words, the photographer only has to read the instructions to choose appropriate shooting modes and the camera will do the rest.

The face recognition technology helps to focus on up to 15 people in the frame. Smile detection and blink detection make sure the subjects are caught smiling and not with eyes closed.

About the only cons with the camera are its menu system and perhaps price. But this can be overcome. The camera is powered by a proprietary lithium-ion rechargeable battery.
