Canon announced its range of 12 megapixel cameras in 2009. Almost all of them are in the Power Shot series. The camera in this review is the Canon Power Shot SX200 IS. It is the company’s first attempt at launching a pocket size super-zoom camera.

The camera is fairly lightweight for a device having the vast number of features that it has. It is being sold for $329.99 by Canon. The camera has a unique design wherein its flash pops out of the main body as soon as it powers up. Many users may find this undesirable especially in situations where they don’t need a flash. They would ideally want to let the flash sit in its place when they are not using it.

Canon Power Shot SX200 IS is powered by a battery suitable for 280 snaps although some users have reported that it does not last that long. A SD Card of 2gigs is a must for this camera.

It has a 3inch widescreen color LCD display which also displays all the menu functions. Some users have said that its menu is simple to operate. It supports JPG format for still pictures and MOV for motion pictures.

The company’s first attempt at super-zoom cameras looks impressive in looks as well as in functionalities. A big bonus of this camera is its capability to create 720p HD movies. This will be a big draw for people who want high quality imagery at a reasonable cost. This camera is a must buy if you are giving up your lower end camera.
