Canon PowerShot SD990 IS Elph

Canon PowerShot SD990 IS Elph

No matter your skill level, now is a great time to enjoy photography with innovative cameras like the Canon PowerShot SD990 IS Elph – the new flagship camera in Canon’s Elph series. The SD990 Elph which is leading the charge in the point-and-shoot digital camera revolution does not come cheap (it retails for nearly $400), but if you have the money, then the Elph series flagship is for you.

The camera has rightly taken the place of the company’s previous model, the PowerShot SD 950 in the product line with all upgraded features; including a new whopping 14.7 megapixel, to the previous 12.1 megapixel. It has also improved upon the DIGIC III processor in the previous model by upgrading to a DIGIC 4 type. The new processor allows servo-AF tracing.

Possibly the most impressive new features in the SD990, are the movie feature, which records with an H.264 MOV compression (a newer file format that saves in smaller file sizes but with equivalent video quality) and the advanced feature of face detection by Canon’s autofocus system. With the new superior Face Detection capability self-timer, the SD990 is automated to click a photo in less than 2 seconds of a new face entering the scene,  so no new moment goes un-captured.

While some have complained about the camera’s new plastic (rather than titanium) case, Canon ensures that this camera withstands all of the usual wear and tear subcompact digital cameras typically face.
While the Elph cameras are not as slim and small as their name implies, their sleek style is a treat, and holding the SD990 is as comfortable as carrying a bar of soap or a deck of cards. If you have the money to spend and are looking for a superior point-and-shoot digital camera with wow features, then look no further than the Canon PowerShot SD990 IS Elph.
